Letter to myself

Someone has hurt you. Someone you never thought would hurt you. I know the feeling, I’ve been there before so many times. I can tell you, that those people aren’t worth it. You’ll learn. You have people who love you and are here for you, and you don’t need to keep fighting for someone who gave up on you. I know you feel like you’re never going to get through this, and that maybe he will change his mind, but he wont and you will get through this. You are so strong and so passionate, you are an amazing person. You are so amazing that you fought for him, you loved so hard and fought, do you know how  courageous you are for that? I know you feel lonely right now, but this feeling will pass. You will meet someone who will love you as much as you love them, someone who will want the same things as you, someone who will fight for you. It may seem like a lifetime from now, but he’s coming as fast as he can.

You are strong. You can do this. Remember who will get the last laugh. You will be so successful with everything that you do, and you will not ever think about this person again. You will have a beautiful family, a career, live in a beautiful home, have everything you dreamed of. And this person will be so insignificant to you. He isn’t worth it. And if it makes you feel better, he will regret it. He will suffer, and you will laugh because you tried to warn him. You tried to tell him, and he didn’t listen. See how caring you are, still trying to protect those who mistreat you. Look how wonderful you are. I love you, and I will help you get through this. We can get through this together. I love you so much, and you have so many amazing things about you. Don’t give up. Strive for better and you will reach it. You will get through it.

Ill be telling myself this in a few years

Conversations with my nineteen year old self
Conversations with my nineteen year old self

You’re angry
I know this
The world couldn’t care less
You’re lonely
I feel this
And you wish you were the best
No teachers
Or guidance
And you always walk alone
You’re crying
At night when
Nobody else is home

Come over here and let me hold your hand and hug you darling
I promise you that it won’t always feel this bad
There are so many things I want to say to you
You’re the girl I used to be
You little heartbroken nineteen year old me

You’re laughing
But you’re hiding
God I know that trick too well
You forget
That I’ve been you
And now I’m just the shell
I promise
I love you and
Everything will work out fine
Don’t try to
Grow up yet
Oh just give it some time

The pain you feel is real you’re not asleep but it’s a nightmare
But you can wake up anytime
Oh don’t lose your passion or the fighter that’s inside of you
You’re the girl I used to be
The pissed off complicated nineteen year old me

Conversations with my nineteen year old self
Conversations with my nineteen year old self

Until we meet again
Oh I wish you well oh
I wish you well
Little girl
Until we meet again
Oh
I wish you well
Little girl
I wish you well
Until we meet again
My little nineteen year old me

Uncensored: "Burning Bras"

I don’t think feminism is bad at all. I support feminism, but Im not one, because of many reasons and the burning bras thing was ONE of them. I did not say at all this was the only reason I am not a feminist. And also, I did not say burning bras was created by feminist just that modern day feminists do support this idea, and embrace it. not all, but some do. Its not just one. And I did say either metaphorically as well, so a women doesn’t have to physically burn her bra to fit into what Im addressing here. And I do support women who do not wear bras. I support women who dont wear a shirt. I really don’t care. What I was trying to get at, is the kind of the negativity towards bras in a way. I don’t agree that the “burning bras” idea supports or should support feminism.

I am a women, and I support strong women and equality between women and men. I am not a crazy conservative. But I also chose not to label myself as a feminist and was just addressing one of the reasons why because I saw a picture or something about  burning bras on the Internet. Just wanted to clear that up.

“Burning Bras”

Okay, so first I’ll start of saying I am not a feminist. That does not mean I don’t support women’s rights or equality, I strongly I strongly do, and some feminist opinions I do agree with. But there are many reasons why I chose not to label myself as a feminist and this is just one.

I know all feminist don’t “burn their bras” or support that idea, but it is a feminist thing. I disagree with it. I think it’s absolutely dumb, and I don’t know why women would think this is raising awareness or whatever for women’s rights. To me, its counter-productive. Bras are amazing. Bras were made so women didn’t have to walk around with their boobs bouncing up and down, and this is uncomfortable. Bras were made specifically for WOMEN! Now tell me, if you are a women complaining about how women’s needs, rights, and opinions are not valued, yet here we have a bra specifically made for women to support their breasts, but we go burn it. I don’t understand.

Now I’m not an idiot, I know the idea behind this whole burning bras thing. Because women don’t want to feel like walking around without a bra on is un-classy,  or nasty, or whatever. Women want their breasts to feel comfortable not look like  gross, or whatever if they are not worn without a bra. But I think its absolutely dumb. I know there are women out there who don’t wear bras because of this, but please, if you are wear a bra size higher than a B-cup, that shit is uncomfortable. Just fucking wear your bra. And honestly, I don’t think boobs are really looked at negatively, THAT MUCH. They are, and some conservatives would agree, but seriously lets be real. Everyone loves boobs. So just wear your bra, and don’t fucking burn something (even if its metaphorically) that was specifically made for YOU, to help you OUT!

Women should be fighting for equal pay, for equal opportunities for certain jobs, for the right to wear a skirt and not get raped etc …not  fight for something that just makes no sense. I feel like a lot of activist ideas just come with nonsense opinions that are just there to have something else to  fight, and this is one of them.

First of all, I’d like to refute the idea that bra-burning was created by feminists and is a widely practiced feminist act. The idea of bra-burning was created by the media in 1968, when feminists gathered to protest a Miss America Pageant. As part of the protest, women decided to throw feminine-typical things into a trash can; among these were high heels, make-up, girdles, and bras. There was no fire in the trash, the garbage can was meant to symbolize the throwing away of restricting and oppressive goods. So a journalist wrote on this protest, calling it a “symbolic bra burning,” and the media took to the phrase. Are there now bra-burning protests? Certainly, but the idea was not originally created by feminists and they are definitely not the main way feminists protest. The major feminist demonstrations I can think of off the top of my head are SlutWalk, Feminist Pride Day, International Women’s Day (though not so much…)… and that’s about all I can think of. I would argue the thing feminists are most concerned about now (at least in the US) is the bill that adds birth control to health insurance and the abortion debate. Of course, I’m generalizing, and there are definitely other issues feminists care deeply about.

Secondly, I’d like to defend the idea of burning bras. Whether a woman decides to wear a bra or not is her own choice, and judging that woman for her choice not to wear one is both immature and irrational. Sure, one of the points of bras is to keep a woman’s breasts from bouncing up and down and to make a woman more comfortable. But you can’t deny that many bras are made to further sexualize a woman; push-up bras being a prime example. Now, I’m not condemning push-up bras. If a woman wants to wear one she has every right to do so. But I, personally think that push-up bras are just as uncomfortable as going bra-less, if not more so. Just as one woman may feel that not wearing a bra is very uncomfortable, another woman finds it freeing and liberating (and same goes for wearing a bra). There are also many cultures that don’t have women wear bras at all; I’m thinking specifically of the Ju/’hoansi tribe in Southern Africa because i’m studying them in class, but I know there are others. By condemning the idea behind bra burning, one is condemning many entire cultures. So, the idea that bras are necessary is also a very ethno-centric and ignorant idea.

TLDR: Just because one woman may feel that bras make life so much better doesn’t mean that other women can’t disagree (and many women do). There is nothing wrong with not wearing a bra, and I think the idea of a bra burning movement is a great one: it signifies to women who would rather not wear bras that they are accepted and have every right to not wear one. Also, just because there are some feminists who burn bras does not mean that all feminists do, nor does it mean that women are not fighting for equality, rape prevention, and other things. In fact, I would argue that in the big picture, bra burning helps support these other feminist goals.

The stuff that’s said, particularly in the response, is good stuff. Personally, I wouldn’t burn my bra because a) those things are expensive, b) burning is bad for the environment and is a waste of the material, and c) if I didn’t support bras (pun intended?) I wouldn’t buy it in the first place.

But that’s not really what I’m protesting here. I’m protesting the first sentence:

Okay, so first I’ll start of saying I am not a feminist. That does not mean I don’t support women’s rights or equality, I strongly I strongly do, and some feminist opinions I do agree with.

You don’t have to burn bras to be a feminist in the same way that you don’t have to beat women to be a misogynist. Being a feminist doesn’t mean you’re a bra-burning, man-hating, masculine woman who refuses to shave and thinks any act of chivalry is sexist.

I don’t like that “feminist” is a bad word and that often people think all feminists act the same or think the same way.  Being a feminist means supporting or advocating for political, social, and economic equality of women to men.

People Being Dumb

So I read a lot of stuff on serial killers, crime, forensics and all of that kind of stuff. So I am very aware of how dangerous this world REALLY is. I know people acknowledge that, but when you start constantly researching this kind of stuff, it freaks you out and it really opens your eyes to this world is way more dangrous than you think.

Well, with the reading I’ve done I think it has prepared me a lot. Even if I haven’t worked in the field yet, I still know what precautions to take and a better realization on how to protect myself. So when I’m  watching shows like Solved or reading books on serial killers, and how they attack and etc… I notice a lot, not all, of these people who are attacked have NO SORT OF PROTECTION.

I know that some people don’t believe in violence, and don’t like any sort of weapons or anything inside their home. Well I’m sorry to say but you’re stupid. I agree 100% violence is not necessary in almost all situations, but we don’t live in that kind of hippy, peace everyone loves each other world. We just don’t. I myself believe in having  guns to protect yourself, but I know some people don’t  like that, and I understand. But you need to get SOMETHING. Dogs are a great thing to have, they really are. My dogs bark the second someone is 50 feet from our house and that gives me time to prepare myself. Like call 911. Also tasers are a great thing to have, they don’t kill anyone directly likes guns, but you can have an intruder under your control.

What I’m saying is that there are many things you can have that will not KILL anyone, but will protect you. And you need it. Sorry but house security alarms wont work when you have a professional killer who really wants to kill you. You need something that will protect you. So people stop  being dumb and thinking violence is not the answer, because I’m telling you that there are thousands of people who don’t give a fuck, and will kill you if all you have are kitchen knives that will be used as the murder weapon.

Hunger Strikes

Now this is one of those activist things that I just don’t get AT ALL.

So I know a lot of people at my old high school are doing hunger strikes because of budget cuts and they’re trying to  raise awareness. I don’t get it. I didn’t know that starving yourself and ending up in the hospital would stop the city from taking away sports. But that’s how some people see it.

Now I’ve never done a hunger strike, one because I just don’t get it. I understand when people  do hunger  strikes to raise awareness, about things that are specifically about hunger and  food!! Not about things that have nothing to do with eating. Its ridiculous. I really don’t get it, and I really do want someone to explain this to me.

Teenagers now think the cool thing to do is get on the  bandwagon for whatever the most popular cause it. But by doing the most unproductive things on the planet. The city does not fucking care if you starve yourself to death and die. They really don’t. if you don’t want the school to cut sports do something directly involving sports!! Not something completely unrelated. And the teachers are supporting this idea. Which is even more stupid. I really just don’t get it at all.

I wish people  had more sense do actually do something. Because sitting on your computer writing a blog about how hungry you are because you are on a hunger strike for something completely unrelated to food is not doing a damn thing. I know I’m no one to speak about doing something, because I admit that I am no activist, I have not done much for a lot of causes. But at least I admit it, and I’m not  pretending to be apart of something  when I’m really not doing anything. Its easy to give up food and say you’re changing something. But in reality you’re not, so stop trying to pretend to be this activist because  you’re not. If I was really passionate about a cause I would think that my passion would drive me to actually get off my ass, and DO SOMETHING.

Please if anyone is on or has done a hunger strike please tell me what the purpose it, because I just dont get it.
